Westfield

Find old town charm, new city style in Westfield

Rural values intersect with urban ideas in Westfield, where there is always a plan on the drawing board.

The growing city embraces its deep-seated Quaker history even as it choreographs change. Driving around the community, you’ll see sights from the days of the Underground Railroad, as well as site work on Westfield’s new business and residential centerpiece – the Grand Junction.

Additionally, the city expects to break ground in late 2011 on Grand Park, a 350-acre family sports development sure to become an incomparable destination.  Grand Park is Westfield’s master plan for a community focus in bringing a variety of sports together with a bold vision for a corporate investment and development.

In this community where the median age is 30.5 years old, a network of trails makes walking or riding a bike easy from subdivisions and schools to downtown shops, Mom and Pop eateries, parks, and a library that ranked seventh in Indiana in 2009.

Opportunity on every corner

Led by Mayor Andy Cook, Westfield is a city where “Open for Business” drives daily agendas.

City officials – from Cook to employees on the street – are keenly interested in diversifying the economy. They strive to make their city a community that can get an incoming business through the six-step planning process and open in nine months or less.

In fact, Cook often comments that “The business community doesn’t move fast enough for Westfield.”

True customer service permeates the Westfield business team – a collaboration of city workers and department heads, the Westfield-Washington Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Westfield Association and the economic development office. Professionals here pride themselves on a reputation of not letting anyone wait for assistance.

Physically moving through Westfield is becoming easier, as well. The city that once might have been considered in the middle of nowhere is positioning itself to become the center of it all. The community finds itself strategically positioned between Indianapolis and the automotive manufacturing installations in Kokomo.

When a project that is widening U.S. 31 into a four-lane limited-access highway is complete, a 10-minute drive will whisk you from Interstate 465 to Westfield, and the trip Downtown Indianapolis will be a quick 30 minutes.

Another transportation asset of Westfield is its proximity to the Hamilton County- owned Indianapolis Executive Airport.  The airport’s 5,500-foot runway provides a significant gateway for corporate jet travel into the northern Indianapolis metro area marketplace while being only seven miles west of the Westfield corporate limits.

Family threads through community’s fabric

Westfield’s ambiance and amenities make it a very desirable place to live, work or play.

A wide and ever-expanding range of housing offers comfortable options for top executives, middle managers and line workers. Westfield-Washington Schools repeatedly ranks among the best districts in the state – the high school’s 96 percent graduation rate was the highest in Hamilton County in 2010 – and numerous recreational facilities appeal to enthusiasts of golf, field games, trails and ice skating.

A local theater adds cultural offerings, and the specialty shops that line downtown pique a variety of tastes, interests and styles. A significant shopping center with several nearby restaurants and a movie complex is located on the community’s southern border.
