Fishers

Family-spirited, corporate-minded Fishers welcomes business

The Town of Fishers is an American success story.

The community defines small-town character from its signature, patriotic-infused Freedom Fest every summer to its “everyone knows their neighbor” reputation. Yet more than 1,500 companies have found a pace and presence here that makes Fishers an ideal place to locate and grow.

Once little more than a dot on the map, Fishers has experienced meteoric growth and development over the past 20 years. This growth has been buttressed by the attraction of life science firms, technology-centered interests, distribution centers and the financial industry. Companies have moved in, moved up and stayed on.

Unlike many growing communities, however, Fishers continues to have pace for new businesses. Prime sites with immediate access to interstates are available and shovel ready. A Research and Technology Campus is being built, and plans for the Fishers Medical Technology Corridor – an upscale, corporate center that also would provide walkable, livable spaces over 1,132 acres – are being finalized.

Fishers, the town that was No. 1 on The Learning Channel’s Top 10 Cities for Families in 2011, is open for business.  Click here for "State of the Town" presentation.

Exceptional schools prepare future workers

By the numbers alone, Fishers is an appealing address.

The median age of residents is 31, and 91 percent of the households are married. The diversity of the community is maturing, and a wide variety of religions have built places of worship in the town.

In addition, Fishers has one of the lowest tax rates in Hamilton County, the lowest unemployment rate and scores an educational attainment rate of 62 percent of the adult population with a B.A. Degree or better.

This family focus and the fact that more than 52 percent of the population has advanced degrees are two drivers that push the Hamilton Southeastern school district to rank among the best in the state. Ten of the district’s 18 schools earned the state’s Four Star rating.

In a message on the district’s website, Superintendent Brian Smith outlined HSE’s mission, “Preparing our students in this 21st century is a challenge that we take seriously. At Hamilton Southeastern Schools, delivering a world-class education for our students can no longer be our goal. It must become our standard.”

In addition to academic excellence, the district has an impressive and lengthy record of success in sports, music and arts competitions.

Recognizing that moving from Point A to Point B is a key to business success and resident happiness, Fishers has worked to reduce traffic congestion by partnering to provide public transportation.  Fishers will be the first community in Indiana to install a series of "smart traffic signals" that will adapt to daily changing traffic patterns.

The Fishers Express bus service, between the town and downtown Indianapolis, was launched in 2008 through an agreement with IndyGo, the Indianapolis bus system. Fishers was the first of several suburban communities to seal this deal.

Currently, the town is working with the Central Indiana Regional Transportation Authority to bring light rail service to Fishers.

Picturesque and perfect

Time never stands still in Fishers, but walk through any of Fishers’ 56 attractive, affordable subdivisions, and you’ll feel life slow down a little. On a warm summer day, you’ll hear the unmistakable tune of an ice cream truck.
Some of the newer developments include Tanglewood, Avalon of Fishers and Britton Falls.

Crime is low, and grocery stores, restaurants, entertainment centers and hospitals are a short drive from nearly any home. In fact, getting from one end of town to the other takes less than 20 minutes.

Ornamental street lights grace town byways. A train station at the municipal complex inspires railroad themes throughout community. A farmers market draws crowds for fresh fruits, vegetables and plants.

Nature is easy to find in Fishers, as well. No better example of this is Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve, a 127-acre protected area that offers several trails to view and learn about the great outdoors.  The town has developed 13 parks that comprise 395 acres. Five undeveloped sites add 152 acres to the mix, and more than 65 miles of trails provide opportunities for strolling, jogging and biking.

Fishers is home to a nationally acclaimed living history museum, Conner Prairie Interactive History Park. Here, where visitors explore what it was like to grow up, live and play in 1836 Indiana. In recent years the Park has added a tethered balloon voyage and a Civil War re-enactment of the Raid on Indiana.  Conner Prairie is also home of the ever popular Symphony on the Prairie.

The arts thrive in Fishers. The Parks and Recreation Department organizes a summer concert series on the Town Hall lawn. An active Arts Council hosts an artist of the month program throughout the year and installed an interactive exhibit in 2011, placing four brightly colored pianos outdoors for the public’s visual and musical entertainment.

Fishers is the kind of community any company would be proud to call home.
